Primary Research

Types of Primary Research          Gathering Evidence          Organizing Evidence          Ethical Approach

One of the ENG 104 goals is to “develop an argument with evidence collected from both primary and secondary research.” That means you will not successfully complete the class if you only use library resources. At some point, you’ll need to conduct your own primary research.

When we refer to Primary Research, we refer to research in which you are doing “hands-on” investigation.  Sometimes referred to as Fieldwork, primary research involves methods such as Observation, Surveys, Interviews, or Archival Research.

In this section, you will continue to work toward course goals about collecting, analyzing, and organizing research information. You will learn a variety of strategies to gather information that is appropriate for the context and persuasive to your audience.
